Explanation of the conversion:
History (Dreamwave comics): Shockwave was recruited as a Decepticon under the leadership of Megatron in his war against the Autobots on the planet Cybertron. Shockwave was made Military
Operations Commander.
Shockwave lead the Decepticon attack on the Autobot capitol of Iacon 8.2 million years ago. Among his troops were
Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Bludgeon, Brawl,
Chopshop, Dirge, Frenzy, Octane, Onslaught, Ramjet, Tantrum, Venom and Vortex.
When Megatron and Autobot leader Optimus Prime disappeared in an accident with a space
bridge, the Autobot and Decepticon forces splintered into smaller factions. Shockwave became leader with the Decepticon
forces, with Ratbat, Starscream and Bludgeon leading up rival
groups.
When Grimlock learned that Jetfire had arranged a meeting with Shockwave Grimlock suspected that Jetfire had betrayed the
Autobots to the Decepticons (Transformers: The War Within - The Dark Ages #3).
Six million years ago Ultra Magnus was able to unite the Autobot factions under his leadership and defeated the Decepticons
and Ultracons. Starscream attempted to use the event of the formal truce to eliminate all his rivals. He killed the
new Council of Ancients himself, but was interrupted by the return of Megatron and his new Aerospace Extermination Squad
(Transformers: The War Within - Age of Wrath #1).
Megatron assigned Shockwave with the task of duplicating the cloning technology used to create the Aerospace Extermination
Squad, but Shockwave feared this task was above even his abilities (Transformers: The War Within - Age of Wrath #2).
Four million years ago, when Megatron and a crew of Decepticons took their flagship, the Nemesis, to attack the Autobot
ship, the ark, he left Shockwave in charge of Cybertron. The Nemesis and Ark disappeared and Shockwave commanded the
Decepticons from this point.
Shockwave was instrumental in the creation Micromaster technology. He was later betrayed by fellow Decepticon
Skyhopper.
Shockwave was among those on Cybertron during the Great Shutdown. He later awoken by Scourge. After betraying Scourge, he
helped bring Cybertron back online and helped form a new joint government between the Autobots and Decepticons.
In 2003 the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth were drawn into conflict in Alaska, where they were interrupted by a
taskforce from Cybertron lead by Shockwave. Among Shockwave's troops were Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Broadside, Octane and Sandstorm. They announced that the war had ended on Cybertron
and that Megatron and Optimus Prime's troops were all criminals for their violent acts. Shockwave severely injured
Megatron and took the other Decepticons on his shuttle, as the Autobots retreated to the Ark. Ironhide was treated for
injuries received in the battle by Ratchet. Blitzwing joined up with a second team from Cybertron lead by Ultra Magnus,
followed by Dirge, Ramjet and Thrust. They faced the Autobots at the
crash site of the Ark. As the Decepticons traveled to Cybertron, Starscream ejected the
wounded Megatron into deep space (Transformers Generation One II #1).
Defeated by the Autobots on Cybertron, Shockwave was forced to set up a new secret headquarters in the wastelands of
Cybertron, with Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Dirge, Ramjet and Thrust following him. Shockwave completed work on his new
warrior, Sixshot. Megatron returned to Cybertron with three clone warriors and the Predacons and was able to defeat
Shockwave. Shockwave was kept alive, but restrained. All Shockwave's warriors except Blitzwing, who was destroyed, joined
up with Megatron in his plan to invade the Earth (Transformers: Generation One III #9).
Of all the Decepticons, Shockwave's method of operation is most characterized by the cold, brutal efficiency one would
expect of a purely mechanical being. He enters every battle not with the bloodlust of his comrades, but with a scientist's
approach to solving a problem. The problem is always the same: How can he use his abilities to most effectively eliminate
the greatest number of his enemies, the Autobots? All too often he finds the answer. He seeks Megatron's position of supremacy over the Decepticons not because his ego demands it, but because
his logic-circuits dictate it. He feels Megatron's all consuming passion for conquest only hinders its achievement. With
smug certainty Shockwave believes the reins of Decepticon power will inevitably be his - after all, he reasons, it's only
logical.
Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Shockwave
is played by actor Corey Burton.
Powers: Among the Decepticons, Shockwave's power is second only to Megatron's. His total command of the
electromagnetic spectrum allows him, in his ray-gun mode, to emit a coruscating beam of energy in a wide variety of forms:
high-energy explosive gamma rays, x-rays that allow him to see through almost anything, blinding visible light, super-hot
infrared rays and radio waves that can either send messages or jam other radio signals are but a few of the weapons in
Shockwave's arsenal. Never having been adapted by the Ark to an Earthly form, Shockwave remains a size consistent with his
robot mode when he transforms to a ray-gun, that is, more than 35 feet long. He can fly in either mode using powerful jet
thrusters in his boots (which become the handle in his ray-gun mode).
Weaknesses: Shockwave's wave-emission power, as well as his flying, is limited by his high fuel consumption.
Although he uses the same type of liquid fuel as his fellow Transformers, he can also use radioactive fuels in the small
nuclear reactor within his torso, which substantially eliminates his liquid fuel dependency problem. Although his logical
brain center is usually an advantage, more intuitive and emotional thinking processes often confound him, particularly
when his adversary is human.
