Explanation of the conversion: This conversion represents Joyride before he became a Powermaster. The wheels only work in vehicle form, whereas the Flight only works in robot form.
History (Dreamwave comics): When civil war broke out on the planet Cybertron between the Autobots and Decepticons,
Joyride joined the Autobot cause.
When Decepticon leader Megatron and Autobot leader Optimus Prime disappeared in an accident with a space bridge, the Autobot and Decepticon
forces splintered into smaller factions (Transformers: War Within - The Dark Ages #1).
Six million years ago, Ultra Magnus united the Autobot factions and lead them to victory over Decepticon and Ultracon
factions, although Starscream's Predacons continued to fight. Megatron returned to Cybertron in command of the clone
forces of the Aerospace Extermination Squadron and took over Cybertron (Transformers: War Within - The Age of Wrath #1).
Joyride was among the small group of Autobots who escaped capture and fought to defeat Megatron. Joyride was among
the Autobots lead by Nightbeat who attempted to capture a member of the Areospace Extermination Sqadron so Perceptor could discover
how they worked (Transformers: War Within - The Age of Wrath #2).
Eventually Joyride became a Powermaster when he was partnered with the Nebulan named Hotwire.
History (Marvel comics): When Optimus Prime's body was destroyed and there was bickering among the Autobots over who should lead them, Fortress Maximus sent Goldbug, Joyride, Sladdash and Getaway on a mission. They were sent with a computer disk with Optimus's personality and memories encoded on it to the planet Nebulos, hoping to rebuild Optimus (Transformers #41).
Once on Nebulos they discovered that the Nebulans had poisoned the whole planet with a special radiation that would slowly
kill any Transformer who recharged with energy from the planet. They also discovered that the Decepticons Darkwing and
Dreadwind had invaded the planet. The Decepticons were using Nebulans who had become Powermaster engines to get fuel that
wouldn't poison them. After rebuilding Optimus, with some improvements, the four Nebulans bacome Powermaster engines for
all the Autobots but Goldbug (who was highly fuel efficient) and fought off the Decepticons. Joyride became bonded with a
Nebulan named Hotwire (Transformers #42).
Joyride was among the united Autobot and Decepticon forces who opposed Unicron's assault on the planet Cybertron in 1991
(Transformers #75).
Although a fierce warrior and a skilled technician, Joyride is best known for his high-speed highway antics. He drives too
fast and too recklessly to be allowed on the same road with most other vehicles. He only bothers to pay attention to the
traffic around him on those occasions when he accidentally plows into some of it. His thrill-seeking isn't limited to
racing alone. The only reason he joined the Autobots was for fun: He gets a kick out of war. He can imagine nothing more
enjoyable than fighting a troop of fuel thirsty Decepticons, which is an attitude that grates on some of his more
serious-minded comrades-in-arms. He's as quick to jump to conclusions as he is to floor his accelerator. This impulsive
behavior often results in Joyride's pursuit of various ill-considered courses of action. Often, only the interference of
some of his more thoughtful fellow Autobots prevents him from failing victim to a disaster of his own creation.
Hotwire was classified as a "chronic unlicensed private vehicle procurer" on his home planet of Nebulos. On Earth he would
be called a car thief. After Hotwire was caught by the authorities once too often, the brilliant Nebulan scientist Hi Q
gave him a chance to straighten his life out by working at the Hi Q Industrial Research Complex. Recognizing Hotwire's
natural talent as a mechanic, Hi Q employed him as his top systems troubleshooter, a job in which Hotwire checked out and
de-bugged all of the complex's newest mechanical creations. Hotwire excelled in this role, but this career ended when he
chose to undergo the Powermaster Process. He was biomechanically engineered to have the ability to transform and function
as Joyride's engine. This binary bonding has made each of the duo dependent on the other for his survival.
Trivia: The Japanese release of Joyride was called Ranger and he was red, black and white in color.
Powers: Joyride is very tough and courageous and can transform into a Cybertonian dune buggy. In vehicle mode
Joyride can reach a maximum speed of 525 miles per hour and has a range of 800 miles. His titanium-belted tires secrete an
adhesive that gives him pinpoint maneuverability on virtually any road surface. In both robot and vehicle modes he is
equipped with a photon blaster, which has the ability to lock the molecular structure of any metallic target its beam
touches, resulting in the freezing of any moving mechanism it hits. Joyride sometimes utilizes a standard Autobot jet pack.
Weaknesses: Joyride is a frequent victim of his own impulsiveness. He gets into numerous debilitating accidents and
battles as a result of his penchant for ill-considered decisions.
